Using a sable brush
| As with many of the images in this section, this painting detail is shown much larger than actual size. Rather than blend the thing to death, the forms are finished using a high quality pointed sable watercolor brush. Most of the time I use a size 4. Occasionally I use a size 1. High quality oil paint is wonderful material that allows for very delicate handling. The watercolor brushes wear out in a hurry though. To extend the life of a brush, I'll give it a treatment with hair conditioner after I wash it out with soap and water. |
