Pastel drawings

| I practice a drawing technique that was inspired by my teacher Alvin Gittins. I use Crescent off white museum board and Nupastel sticks. Most of the drawings are 40x32". |

| I begin to draw very lightly at first. I draw with the side of the sticks and hold the sticks like a baton. This lays down a nice texture and also keeps the ends of the sticks nicely pointed to use on details and short curves. I pull out white highlights using a kneaded eraser. I do a great deal of rubbing using the sides of my fingers and my knuckles. I also use an old oil bristle brush for blending. While the pastels look fairly monochromatic, I actually use three or four different colors. |
